POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 20, 2022 : Bangladesh and the United States are holding a formal meeting in Dhaka. The eighth partnership dialogue between Bangladesh and the United States is being held on Sunday. Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen is leading Bangladesh in today’s meeting. The US delegation is led by Victoria Nuland, the State Department’s undersecretary of state for politics.
The US delegation is led by Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, and Amanda Dory, Deputy Secretary of State for Defense Policy.
Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday to attend the meeting. He will meet Foreign Minister Momen today after the partnership dialogue. After Bangladesh, he will visit India and Sri Lanka.
During her five-day visit to Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, Victoria Nuland will meet with representatives of civil society and business, the State Department said in a statement on Friday evening.
Foreign Minister Momen said Bangladesh would raise the issue of US sanctions on RAB at the meeting and request its withdrawal. The United States, on the other hand, emphasizes strengthening ties and economic partnership in pursuit of peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific. Bangladesh will seek US cooperation in resolving the Rohingya crisis at the meeting.
Diplomatic sources said the United States would focus on five issues in the upcoming partnership dialogue. These include trade, labor and investment, human rights and good governance, global threats including climate change, regional issues and security cooperation, including free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States will remain a strong partner of Bangladesh in the future — this message will also be found in this dialogue.
