Therefore, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has recommended banning India’s spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In its 2026 annual report, it claimed that systematic attacks on religious minorities are increasing in India. The agency has called India a ‘country of particular concern’ on the issue of religious freedom. The report says that specific bans should be imposed on ‘RAW’ and RSS and their assets should be confiscated. The report also claims that religious freedom in India is gradually declining in 2025.
However, New Delhi has strongly criticized this recommendation. On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the US Commission’s report is completely ‘biased’ and ‘based on false information’.
“For years, the commission has sought to portray a distorted picture of India based on ideology rather than objective facts,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement.
He also said, “Instead of criticizing India, the commission should focus on the attacks on Hindu temples in America, the growing intolerance and harassment of people of Indian origin.” Earlier, the US Commission on Religious Freedom had also spoken out about the situation of minorities in India.
