POBNEWS24, Dhaka Oct 24, 2023 : As the Cyclone ‘Hamun’ gathered strength and turned into a severe cyclone, the Meteorological Department has maintained a local warning signal number 4 for Payra Sea Port and other sea ports of the country.
A special weather bulletin (Serial No-9) on Tuesday (October 24) morning said that severe cyclone ‘Hamun’ may weaken into a cyclone and deep depression over the sea. Then by Wednesday, it may hit between Patuakhali and Chittagong coast.
Meanwhile, due to the impact of the cyclone, Patuakhali has continued to receive drizzle since Monday night. Besides, no such effect was observed in the district. However, the Bay of Bengal is slightly rougher than normal.
Patuakhali District Disaster Management Committee meeting has already been held in preparation for the cyclone. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Noor Qutubul Alam on Tuesday morning. Representatives of various departments of the district along with voluntary organizations and executive officers of various upazilas participated virtually.
District Disaster Management Committee meeting informed that 703 shelters, 35 Mujib Killas, 438 volunteers of CPP have been prepared in the district for any situation. Apart from this, 9 lakh 90 thousand taka of GR cash and 600 metric tons of GR rice have been stored in Patuakhali district.

Arif Hossain, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Harun Or Rashid, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Suman Chandra Debnath, Patuakhali Municipality Panel Mayor Delwar Hossain Akon were present.
