POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sept 8, 2025 : Bangladesh will export 1,200 tons of hilsa fish to India this year on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja.
The Commerce Ministry issued an order in this regard on Monday. The policy decision to export hilsa to India was taken subject to conditions.
Bangladesh exports hilsa every year on the occasion of Durga Puja. The demand for Bangladeshi hilsa is high, especially in West Bengal.
An order from the Commerce Ministry said that interested exporters can apply in hard copy during office hours on September 11. Along with the application, the updated trade license, ERC, income tax certificate, VAT certificate, sales contract, license of the concerned exporting company and other relevant documents will have to be submitted.
The order also said that the government has set the minimum export price of hilsa at 12.5 US dollars per kg. Those who have already applied without invitation will also have to submit a new application.
It is worth noting that last year, on the occasion of Durga Puja, the Ministry of Commerce had initially decided to allow the export of 3,000 tons of hilsa to India. Moving away from this decision, it finally allowed the export of 2,420 tons of hilsa. This time, permission was given to export half of this amount. Last time, a total of 49 companies were given permission.
There are also conditions not to export more hilsa than the approved quantity, not to transfer the permission in any way, and not to export it under sub-contract without an approved exporter. It has been said that the government can stop the export at any time. These conditions are always there.
