POBNEWS24, Dhaka Oct 19, 2025 : Teachers and employees of protesting private educational institutions under the MPO have held a pre-announced hunger march with dishes in hand.
On Sunday, at around 3:15 pm, the teachers and employees started a procession from the Central Shaheed Minar towards the Education Building with empty dishes. Thousands of teachers and employees participated in it.
At around 3:15 pm, the teachers and employees’ procession reached the High Court intersection via Doyel Chattar, but the police stopped it.
At that time, the teachers and employees kept raising slogans like ‘Either accept the demand, or else put a bullet in your chest’, ‘5% notification, accept it or not,’ ‘Farce notification, accept it or not’, ‘C and Abrar, no more is needed’ etc.
Before the procession started from the central Shaheed Minar, Delwar Hossain Aziji, member secretary of the MPO-affiliated Education Nationalization Alliance, addressed the teachers and employees.
He said, “The government has issued a notification with 5 percent house rent. Our statement is clear, we do not accept it. We think this is the initial victory of our movement. Our movement will not stop until the final victory is achieved.”
As of writing this report, the police and MPO-affiliated teachers and employees are facing each other at the High Court intersection. Two police water cannons and armored vehicles have been deployed there.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry has sent a letter to the Ministry of Education agreeing to the government to pay 5 percent (minimum Tk 2,000) house rent to MPO-affiliated teachers and employees of private educational institutions in the country.
It is worth noting that on October 12, teachers clashed with the police and threw sound grenades during a sit-in program in front of the Press Club. After that, teachers stopped teaching all over the country from October 13 and went on strike.
The government has announced a 5 percent increase in rent allowance, but the teachers have rejected it. They say the agitation will continue until they get 20 percent rent, a medical allowance of Tk 1,500, and 75 percent of the festival allowance for employees.
