POBNEWS24 Dhaka Oct 18, 2025 : The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has said that the fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has been completely brought under control. This information was given in a press release published on the verified Facebook page of the chief advisor at 8:53 pm on Saturday (October 18).
The release said that the fire broke out at the airport’s cargo village at 2:15 pm on Saturday. The fire was brought under complete control with the quick and coordinated action of the fire service and airport authorities. The ministry also confirmed that no one lost their lives in the incident.
The release also mentioned that Sheikh Bashiruddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, is himself at the airport and is closely monitoring the entire situation. The ministry is conducting all necessary activities in close coordination with all the concerned agencies.
The ministry said that an investigation will be launched soon to find out the cause of the incident. The source of the fire will be identified and necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has formed a 7-member committee to investigate the fire incident at the airport. The committee will have to submit its investigation report within the next 5 working days.
Biman’s Flight Safety Chief will serve as the chairman of the committee. The members will be representatives of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Biman’s General Manager (Corporate Safety and Quality), Chief Engineer (Quality Assurance), Deputy General Manager (Security) and Deputy General Manager (Cargo-Export). And the responsibility of member secretary has been given to Biman’s Deputy Manager (Insurance).
Three terrible fires have occurred in Bangladesh in the last five days. A garment factory and chemical godown in the capital’s Mirpur, a factory in the Chittagong EPZ and, most recently, a fire broke out at the country’s main airport, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. These incidents have raised public concern and apprehension. No clue has been found. It is not known whether it was sabotage or not.

Sources say that in the last 12 years, the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has witnessed multiple fires. After such repeated incidents at the country’s most important airport, new concerns have arisen about security measures.
