POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 27, 2025 : The court has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 21 years in prison in three cases filed on charges of corruption in plot allocation. Dhaka Special Judge-5 Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun announced the verdict at 11:30 am on Thursday.

Security has been tightened in the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court premises in view of the verdict. Additional police personnel and BGB members have also been deployed.
Earlier, the court fixed this date after the arguments in favor of the only arrested accused in the case, former RAJUK member (Estate and Land) Mohammad Khurshid Alam, on Sunday. The other absconding accused did not get a chance to present their arguments and could not claim their innocence in their own defense.
ACC Prosecutor Khan Md. Mainul Hasan (Lipon) said that they expected the maximum sentence for the accused to be life imprisonment. However, Khurshid Alam’s lawyer Shahinur Rahman claimed that the ACC was unable to prove the allegations against his client.
According to court sources, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed six separate cases in January this year alleging irregularities in the allocation of plots. Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, her daughter British MP Tulip Siddique, son Radwan Mujib Siddique and daughter Azmina Siddique, and several others were named as accused in these cases.

Apart from the Sheikh family, the list of accused includes Housing and Public Works Ministry Secretary Md. Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Additional Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin, Administrative Officer Md. Saiful Islam Sarkar, Senior Assistant Secretary Purabi Golder, former RAJUK Chairman Md. Anisur Rahman Miah, former member Mohammad Khurshid Alam, members Kabir Al Asad, Tanmoy Das, Nurul Islam, former member (Planning) Nasir Uddin, former Major Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, director Sheikh Shahinul Islam, deputy directors Hafizur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, former state minister Sharif Ahmed and former private secretary Salahuddin.
On July 31, Special Judge Court-5 framed charges against the accused in three cases. Charges in the remaining three cases were framed in Special Judge Court-4.

On January 14, ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin filed the first case against 8 people, including Sheikh Hasina and her family. After the investigation, Investigation Officer Afnan Jannat Keya filed a charge sheet against a total of 12 people, including four additional people, on March 10.

On January 12, 16 people, including Saima Wazed Putul and Sheikh Hasina, were made accused in another case. After the investigation, the number of accused stood at 18.

In addition, ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan filed a chargesheet against a total of 17 people after completing the investigation of the case filed on January 14 alleging irregularities in the allotment of plots to Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

The chargesheet states that while in power, Sheikh Hasina and her family members illegally allotted 10 katha plots in Sector 27 of Purbachal. According to the allegation, they took these plots by using their power even though they were incompetent.
