POBNEWS24, Dhaka, April 5, 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders bought Mustafizur Rahman for a record Rs 9.2 crore in this year’s IPL auction. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL due to security concerns after facing criticism from some Hindu extremists.
Bangladesh did not go to India to play the last T20 World Cup due to security concerns. The Tigers wanted to play the World Cup matches in Sri Lanka, a neutral venue like Pakistan. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) did not agree to that. Instead, the ICC gave Scotland a chance in the World Cup instead of Bangladesh.
The relationship with the BCCI began to strain after Mustafizur Rahman did not go to India to play the T20 World Cup over the issue of Mustafizur Rahman. This is still ongoing.
The IPL broadcast in Bangladesh is suspended due to the Mustafizur Rahman issue.
However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken the initiative to normalize relations with the neighboring country and cricket superpower, the Indian Cricket Board. With that aim, the BCB has sent a letter to the BCCI. This communication has been made mainly to discuss the scheduled series of the two countries and increase mutual involvement.
After the board meeting on Sunday, BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim explained the reason for sending the letter to the Indian Cricket Board and BCCI.
In this regard, BCB’s Cricket Operations Department Head Nazmul Abedin said, “The Indian team is scheduled to come to Bangladesh next September. Last year, the Bangladesh women’s team was scheduled to go to India, which was canceled. We want to see it rescheduled. This was the main topic in the letter sent to the BCCI.”
He also said, “Whether we can further increase our involvement with the Indian Board, whether we can hold other events, these things have been said. Apart from these, we do such things with all cricket-playing countries. We hope to get results. I hope to hear from them soon.’
He admitted that the relationship between the two boards had deteriorated somewhat around the World Cup, ‘We hope that they will host us (the women’s team) in the near future. We know that the relationship with them has definitely deteriorated somewhat around the World Cup. Hopefully, we will revive this relationship again and through those programs with them, a good position will be created again.’
According to the schedule, the Indian team is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on August 28. The two teams will play three ODIs and three T20 matches on this tour. The ODI series is scheduled to start on September 1 and the T20 series will start on September 9.
In addition, the Bangladesh women’s cricket team was scheduled to go to India in December last year to play three ODIs and three T20s. That series was postponed. The BCB hopes that it will be possible to reschedule the series through fresh discussions.
