POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 29: India has finally launched tourist visas for Bangladeshi citizens. The application process began at the country’s five Indian Visa Application Centers (IVACs) from Sunday.
Applications have been submitted since Monday.
On the first day of submitting visa applications, long queues were seen at the IVAC located at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka. However, many have expressed excitement over the launch of visas. Visa applicants are experiencing a “visa festival”.
Earlier, on Thursday, newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi visited the Indian Visa Application Center at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka and announced the re-launch of tourist visas for Bangladeshis.
On August 5, 2024, India stopped issuing regular visas citing security reasons after the political change in Bangladesh.
After that, although medical, business and student visas were issued on a limited scale for emergency needs, tourist visas were completely closed.
This deadlock was broken after the new Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi, took charge recently. Initially, this service has been launched in the IVAC centers of Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna. It is said that it will be launched in other cities in phases.
