POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 13, 2026 : A police sub-inspector (SI) and two others have been suspended for allegedly beating national team cricketer Naeem Hasan. At the same time, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has formed a three-member investigation committee to investigate the incident.
CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali informed reporters about this after visiting cricketer Naeem Hasan’s house on Saturday (June 13) afternoon.
Naeem Hasan’s house is in Faridarpara area of Chandgaon, Chittagong city. CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali went there to inquire about the incident of beating him and express his regret. He later spoke to reporters.
Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali said that maximum action will be taken against the accused police members as per the rules. In the meantime, they have been suspended. A departmental case is also under process. If anyone else is involved in the incident, action will also be taken against them.
In response to a question, the police commissioner said, the police will not take responsibility for anyone’s personal crimes. Those who are responsible will have to take responsibility. Those involved will not be spared at all.
On Friday night, on his way home after a Premier League game in Dhaka, police were accused of beating and harassing Nayeem after he was taken out of a CNG-powered autorickshaw in the Lalkhan Bazar area of Chittagong city. Later, he alleged that he was beaten and harassed after being taken to the police station.
Nayeem Hasan told reporters that he got off a night flight from Dhaka to Chittagong Airport. From there, he left for home on CNG. While getting off the expressway, the police signaled the CNG to stop in the Lalkhan Bazar area. Then the police took the car’s documents from the driver. Later, Khulshi Police Station SI Shafiqul Islam and police source Sohel took Nayeem to the police station in a CNG-powered autorickshaw. He was also harassed there. Later, Naeem was released from the police station after the intervention of BCB officials.
The two police members who were temporarily suspended in this incident are Khulshi Police Station SI Shafiqul Islam and Constable Md. Russell Chowdhury.
Earlier, on Friday night, they were withdrawn from Khulshi Police Station and attached to CMP’s Dampara Police Lines. Meanwhile, the police source Sohel has also been arrested in this incident, said the CMP Commissioner.
