POBNEWS24, Mongla (Bagerhat) Aug 31, 2025 : Bangladesh Navy is always engaged in ensuring the security of the country’s maritime borders and saving the lives of all people at sea. For this purpose, the warships of the Navy have been relentlessly conducting regular patrol activities in the maritime borders of Bangladesh. In continuation of this, on Saturday (August 30, 2025), the Navy’s warship ‘Banouja Bishkhali’, while engaged in regular patrol activities, rescued a fishing trawler named ‘FB Mayer Doa’ with 12 fishermen floating in the Bay of Bengal due to engine failure.
The trawler was found floating in the area adjacent to the International Maritime Boundary Line (Western IMBL) about 17 nautical miles away from the Mongla Fairway Buoy by the patrolling warship ‘Banouja Bishkhali’. At that time, the Navy warship detected the trawler as ‘engine-failed and in danger’ through radar and quickly reached the spot. When the warship reached the fishing trawler, the fishermen said that they had been floating in the deep sea for two consecutive days due to the engine failure and the fishermen were living in extreme hardship due to lack of food and water. Navy members immediately rescued the trawler and the fishermen and provided them with necessary food, clean water and first aid. All 12 fishermen on the trawler are currently healthy. It is learned that the accident-hit trawler had gone to sea on August 15, 2025 for fishing and due to a mechanical fault, the engine failed and continued to float in the deep sea. Despite heavy waves and hostile weather, the Navy warship towed the trawler and the rescued fishermen to safety and handed them over to ‘BCGS Atrai’ for further action.
It is worth noting that the Bangladesh Navy is constantly patrolling the deep sea and coastal areas day and night using multiple warships to ensure the security of the country’s maritime borders, protection of marine resources, development of the maritime economy, prevention of smuggling, and safety of fishermen.
