POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 5, 2025 : The BGB has handed over Sonali Khatun, a much-discussed victim of BSF’s inhuman push-in, and her family to BSF on humanitarian grounds through the Sonamajjid ICP in Chapainawabganj.
On Friday evening at 7:30 pm, Sonali Khatun, a pregnant Indian woman who was a victim of push-in, and her 8-year-old son, Md. Sabbir Sheikh, were handed over to BSF in a healthy and safe condition through a formal flag meeting at the Sonamajjid ICP in Chapainawabganj. At that time, Lt. Col. Golam Kibria, commander of Mahananda Battalion, was present.
It is noteworthy that on June 25, 2025, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) forcibly pushed 06 Indian citizens into Bangladesh through the Kurigram border. After the push-in, when the Indian citizens entered Chapainawabganj district, the local law enforcement forces arrested them for illegal entry and sent them to jail on August 22 on the orders of the court. Among the detainees was a 35-week pregnant Indian woman, Sonali Khatun, and her two minor children. On humanitarian grounds, the court gave them local custody on December 2 and directed them to be sent back to the country through diplomatic channels.
Keeping in mind the humanitarian risk and violation of international human rights caused by the push-in of the pregnant woman and two children, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the BGB Headquarters established close communication at the diplomatic level. With the consent of both countries, a decision was taken to send them back to their own country. In continuation of this, they were respectfully sent back to their own country on Friday.
After the handover, the commander of the Mahananda Battalion told reporters that this inhumane push-in activity of the BSF is a clear violation of international human rights standards and bilateral border management agreements. This push-in activity has been creating a humanitarian crisis in the border areas for a long time and is being identified as an obstacle in the way of harmonious border management of both countries. He further said that in contrast to the inhumane push-in behavior of the BSF, the Bangladesh government, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the BGB have completed the entire process in a completely transparent, safe and dignified manner by showing deep respect for human values, international law and neighborly relations. Especially considering the protection and medical risks to pregnant women and children, this activity of the BGB has set a unique example of justice, humanity and responsibility. The BGB hopes that the BSF will stop such inhumane and internationally illegal activities including push-in and maintain harmonious, humane and legal processes at the border in the future.
