POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Dec 6, 2025 : India has warned Bangladesh about terrorism on the issue of the revival of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). This warning was given during a meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain and Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar in the Omani capital Muscat last week. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal gave this information at the weekly briefing of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on Friday.
Responding to a journalist’s question at the briefing, Jaiswal said that Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor raised the issue of SAARC revival in that meeting in Muscat. Everyone in South Asia knows which country and what kind of activities it has cornered SAARC. Jaishankar also told Towhid Hossain that Bangladesh should not normalize terrorism.
The SAARC summit has lost momentum since the terrorist attack on an Indian army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir in September 2016. India blamed Pakistan for the attack and said that terrorism and talks cannot go together.
The briefing was also asked about some comments made by some Bangladeshi advisors. In response, Randhir Jaiswal said that India is keeping a close eye on these comments. India is also aware of such comments and their impact on its work with Bangladesh. Jaiswal said that such comments are definitely not helpful. They need to think about their reaction.
The meeting of the directors general of the border guard forces of Bangladesh and India, BGB and BSF, has just ended in New Delhi. At a joint press conference on Thursday, the BGB director general, in response to a question, said that the allegations of minority atrocities after the August 5 change of government in Bangladesh are exaggerated and a creation of the media.
When asked for his reaction in the briefing, Jaiswal said that everyone is aware of what has happened to minorities in Bangladesh in the last few months. India’s concerns about the safety of minorities have been expressed repeatedly. He said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also raised the issue during his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington. The US has also been informed of India’s concerns on the matter.
