POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 2, 2026 : The BGB has thwarted the BSF’s push-in attempt to push more than a hundred people through the Benapole border. Tension prevails at the border over this incident. The BGB has taken a strict stance. Micking is being done in the border area to prevent infiltration.
Such activities of the BGB were seen at the Benapole border on Tuesday afternoon.
Jessore-49 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan said that on Sunday night, the BSF brought more than a hundred men and women to the border in several vehicles and gathered them. Later, late at night, the border lights were turned off and various gates surrounding the star were opened and they tried to enter Bangladesh through the hay field of the Sadipur border.
At that time, they could not enter due to the resistance of the patrolling BGB. Despite pushing 12 citizens out of the wire fence along the 21/6 pillar of the border, they have been stuck at the zero line for the past 3 days due to BGB obstacles. They have to stay under the open sky in the field.
Also, no solution was found at the flag meeting on Monday. As a result, women, children and men have been suffering inhumanely. BGB-BSF are facing each other with heavy weapons on the border. Tension is high on the border.
A BGB officer on duty at the border said that no citizens were found in the border area on Tuesday. However, BGB members commented that they did not see them hiding in the bushes on the border.
Locals have also sought the intervention of the governments of both countries in this humanitarian issue.
Meanwhile, several reports have been published in the Indian media recently about the push back or sending Bangladeshis back to Bangladesh through the border. These reports mainly mention the West Bengal, Assam and Tripura borders. Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Hasan, commander of 6 BGB of Chuadanga Battalion, has called these reports baseless. He told this reporter, “The report mentions the Murshidabad border.
A Times of India report quotes a report saying that on June 1, 2026, the BSF sent 17 Bangladeshi nationals back to Bangladesh through the Raninagar border in Murshidabad. The report says that after verifying their identity as Bangladeshis, they were handed over on the basis of an agreement between the BSF and the BGB. This news is completely false.
Regarding another news from the Times of India, Economic Times, Lt. Col. Nazmul said that after the anti-illegal infiltration operation at the Bithari-Hakimpur border in North 24 Parganas, hundreds of people started moving towards the Bithari-Hakimpur border. It has also been mentioned in Indian political circles that this is a voluntary return to Bangladesh. The Economic Times report on the Tripura border said that a large number of Bangladeshis were among the foreigners detained in Tripura since 2022. At the same time, infiltration and The repatriation has also seen political controversy. The Bangladesh government lodged a diplomatic protest after Assam Chief Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma of India publicly threatened pushback. The Indian central government has also not presented the issue as an official government policy. The Hindustan Times reported in a report, “According to Bangladeshi sources, Khagrachari’s Panchri, Jaminipara, Khedachhara; Allegations have been raised that people were forcibly sent to some areas of Moulvibazar, the Roumari Charanchal of Kurigram and the Mandarbaria area of the Sundarbans. The incidents have been described by a large part of the Indian media as an anti-infiltration operation against illegal immigrants. On the other hand, the Bangladesh government says that pushing someone to the border without proper diplomatic and verification processes is not acceptable. There has also been diplomatic communication between the two countries on this. This has been reported without any reliable source, said Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Hasan.
Lt. Nazmul, citing a report in Anandabazar Patrika on June 2, said that the newspaper report said that 55 people were pushed back to Bangladesh on Monday. The news is completely false. The report says that the push in was done after verifying the documents and in agreement with the BGB. He mentioned that there may be some economic interest or political compromise behind all these news.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed is opposed to any kind of illegal push-ins and push-backs at the border.
He said this while interacting with journalists at the meeting room of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
When asked about the allegations of push-ins across the border after the new government came to power in West Bengal, India, the minister said that the matter is under the government’s attention and the BGB is on alert at the border. He said that if a person is actually a citizen of Bangladesh and is staying in another country, the central government of the concerned country can officially send a list and complete the identity verification process. In that case, repatriation arrangements will be taken in accordance with international and legal norms. However, he also said that currently no such formal application is pending with the government.
On the other hand, amid the tension, the 57th Director General-level border conference between Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) will begin on June 8 in New Delhi. This conference will continue until June 11. The BGB gave this information in a press release on Tuesday.
