POBNEWS24, Desk report Aug 29, 2026 : The death toll in flash floods in Nepal has risen to 616. Local police said that 1,924 people are still missing. In addition, at least 320 Indians are missing on the Nepal-Tibet border. 1,545 people have been rescued from various affected areas with injuries.
Earlier, Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority had said that 579 bodies have been recovered in the floods. As of Friday evening, 1,924 people were still missing.
According to local media, the highest number of bodies have been recovered from Chitwan district. 233 bodies have been recovered there. In addition, 154 bodies have been recovered in Nawalparasi East, 46 in Gorkha, 40 in Dhading, 37 in Nuakote, 30 in Tanahu, 27 in Nawalparasi West and 12 in Rasua.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities said that five people were killed in floods in Girang County, Tibet Autonomous Region.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that 320 Indians are missing after severe floods on the Nepal-Tibet border. In addition, about 400 Indians are stranded on the Chinese side.
Flash floods hit Nepal’s Rasua and surrounding districts on Wednesday morning. Since then, 86 security personnel, 517 foreign tourists and 127 Nepalese tourists are among the missing.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in various flood-affected areas.
