POBNEWS24, Dhaka 14 Nov 14, 2025 : Mujahidul Islam Selim said at the national rally of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), the country is immersed in a totalitarian crisis. Through the great liberation war, we freed the country from the shackles of Pakistan, not to be tied to the new chains of Indian or US imperialism. The ruling Yunus government is systematically making the country obedient to US geopolitical interests. Which will threaten the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh in the long term.
He said, Bangladesh has repeatedly been in the grip of autocratic rule. The people of the country have overthrown the autocrats with their own blood. We do not want to see any new fascist, authoritarian, autocratic rule. The interim government is repeatedly giving various fears about holding a free, fair and impartial national election. He demanded that the schedule for the national elections be announced immediately.
Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim said this at the CPB national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Friday.
Comrade Selim said that the proposal presented by Dr. Yunus for a ‘referendum’ on the day of the national elections is in no way acceptable. They have written a fake document by talking about consensus. What the government is going to do by enforcing the constitutional order will not be validated through a referendum. There is no opportunity to impose anything outside the consensus. The ruling government is pushing the country towards a long-term conflict through the constitutional order and referendum. The current government is consolidating the old system in a new direction. He said that to save the country from a totalitarian crisis, the repetition of fascist misrule and extreme rightism must be prevented. An alternative leftist and democratic force government must be formed.
Under the chairmanship of CPB President Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan, the rally was addressed by General Secretary Comrade Abdullah Kafi Ratan, former President Comrade Mohammad Shah Alam, Presidium members Ragib Ahsan Munna, SA Rashid, Md. Aminul Farid, Central Committee members Ruhin Hossain Prince and Dr. Dibalok Singha. Among the prominent intellectuals of the country, senior Marxist thinker Emeritus Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury spoke at the rally, and economist Professor Anu Muhammad read his written speech as he was ill. Among the leaders of friendly political parties, Comrade Khalequzzaman, Chief Advisor of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh-BDS, and Sharif Nurul Ambia, President of Bangladesh JSD, addressed the rally. Speaking as representatives of the marginalized and oppressed communities, Pir Saheb Shah Sufi Hasan Shah Sureshwari Dipu Nuri of Sureshwar Darbar Sharif, President of Bangladesh Adivasi Union Rebecca Soren, Former President of Bangladesh Harijan Oikya Parishad Krishnalal spoke. The rally was conducted by members of the presidium Rafiquzzaman Layek and Jolly Talukder.
At the rally, Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said, “We need to build unity among social revolutionaries. What we need now is to form a united front under the leadership of those who want to abolish private ownership and establish social ownership.” This time, the united front will be a united front of revolutionaries, a front of all leftists. I think that the Communist Party should lead that front. Their voice should be raised: “Social revolutionaries, unite.” Hopefully, the Communist Party will take this initiative. CPB General Secretary Abdullah Kafi Ratan said at the rally that the Yunus government after the July uprising failed to achieve the goal for which it was held. The July uprising was defeated by the people. The government did not take any measures to protect women and minorities. A group claiming to lead the uprising has established a new reign of looting and occupation. No democratic government has been formed in this country since independence. Our government is the first democratic government in this country, which will build a democratic state and society.
In his speech as the rally president, Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan demanded the immediate announcement of a schedule for free, fair and impartial elections. He announced a program to surround the Election Commission and hold protest rallies in front of election offices in districts and upazilas on Monday, November 24, demanding a reduction in the deposit amount in the elections and ensuring equality for candidates.
He also announced a nationwide protest rally and procession program on Sunday, November 16 in protest against the decision to sign the agreement to hand over the Laldia Terminal to foreigners. He announced a women’s political convention in Dhaka on Friday, November 28 and a national convention of alternative political forces of the people on Saturday, November 29, under the initiative of the Left Democratic Alliance and Bangladesh JSD, including the Left Democratic Progressive Parties, to establish a society without discrimination by implementing the spirit of the Liberation War of ’71 and the aspirations of the mass uprising of ’24.
After the rally, a huge procession turned left from Shahbagh to Bata Signal, Science Lab, Dhaka College, Gausia Market, and again Bata Signal, Shahbagh, and ended at Suhrawardy Udyan.
