POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 15,2025 : With the aim of forming a progressive alternative democratic force ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections, the left parties of Bangladesh have taken the initiative to form a united political platform with the participation of progressive, left, democratic parties, organizations, professionals and civil society, including the United Front, along with the Left Democratic Alliance and Bangladesh JSD.
This grand alliance of leftists will enter the field with a ‘people’s charter’ similar to the July National Charter. They are also expected to announce a multifaceted program to address the crisis in democracy and public life with the goal of ‘movement and elections together’. Along with this, preparations are underway to contest 300 seats in the next election together. The potential partner parties of the alliance have already started the process of selecting candidates for their respective parties.
On this occasion, the left parties will hold a national convention at the Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital at 10 am on November 29 to formulate a detailed program of the alternative political force and take political decisions.
This information was given at a press conference organized at the Friendship Auditorium of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) office in Purana Paltan in the capital on Saturday. Bazlur Rashid Firoz, coordinator of the Left Democratic Alliance and general secretary of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BSD), read out a written speech. This convention will be held with the aim of establishing a society without discrimination in the spirit of the Liberation War and the aspirations of the 2024 mass uprising. CPB presidium member Mujahidul Islam Selim and Bangladesh JSD general secretary Nazmul Haque Pradhan answered various questions at the press conference. In a written speech, Bazlur Rashid Firoz said, “We have taken the initiative to build an alternative political force of the people with the combined strength of all patriotic-democratic-progressive-left political parties and individuals, various ethnicities, women’s organizations, labor-work-professional organizations, socio-cultural organizations, and everyone.” The national convention will be held to build an alternative political force of the people to establish a society without discrimination in the spirit of the Liberation War and the aspirations of the mass uprising of 2024. This convention is being organized to unite the people in the movement and struggle to deal with the current situation in the country and in the upcoming elections.
Criticizing the existing political parties of the country, Bazlur Rashid Firoz said that for more than five decades, the country has been under the misrule and misrule of the marker government and the military government in stages. The country is oppressed, sick, facing a deep crisis and destruction. The people want freedom.
At this time, the Left Democratic Alliance and Bangladesh JSD presented 8-point proposals for the alternative political force of the people. These include – protecting the ideals and values of the Liberation War, preventing the conspiracies of the anti-Liberation War forces; Not to let the July mass uprising fail, to properly judge the murders, disappearances, looting and wealth smuggling organized during the fascist regime, to prevent the rise of neo-fascism and radical religious sectarian forces, to hold fair elections for the National Parliament in the journey of democracy and transfer power to the elected government, to continue the constitutional process; to establish a people-friendly rule free from terrorism and lawlessness against exploitation, looting, disappearances, murder, encroachment, extortion, and corruption.
The proposal also includes adopting an employment-based development strategy, implementing a modern universal one-way education system and a universal health system based on poor-friendly public health; to build a country free from foreign exploitation. To build a socio-economic-state system free from all types of discrimination on the basis of equality by preserving national interests; to build a mass movement against imperialist and anti-hegemonic aggression and plunder that adheres to the principles of international relations.
Also present at the event were CPB President Sajjad Zahir Chandan, General Secretary Abdullah Kafi Ratan, Revolutionary Communist League General Secretary Iqbal Kabir Zahid, Democratic Revolutionary Party General Secretary Mosherefa Mishu, Bangladesh JSD Standing Committee member Mushtaq Hossain, and others.
