POBNEWS24 Khulna Dec 5, 2025 : Jamaat-Islami of Bangladesh is moving forward with a non-communal spirit. At present, the work of distributing candidates to 300 constituencies in different districts in the upcoming national parliamentary elections is underway, which is almost in the final stage.
Amidst discussions and criticism, Jamaat-Islami has announced Krishna Nandi as its candidate for Khulna-1 constituency in the 13th national parliamentary elections.
For this reason, the candidate who received the initial nomination of Jamaat-Islami in this constituency consisting of ‘religious minority’ Dakop-Batiaghata upazila has been changed.
Krishna Nandi is the president of the Hindu wing of the party’s Dumuria Upazila Committee. There was extensive discussion and criticism among political circles and the Hindu community in Dumuria, Dakop and Batiaghata – these three upazilas – about his candidacy.
Jamaat leaders and activists said that in the first phase, the names of party candidates were initially announced for Khulna-4, Khulna-5 and Khulna-6 constituencies. Then, in the middle of this year, the party announced candidates for the remaining three constituencies. Among them, the name of Batiaghata Upazila Jamaat Islami Amir Maulana Sheikh Abu Yusuf was announced for Khulna-1 (Dakop-Batiaghata) constituency.
When asked about the change of candidacy, Khulna district Jamaat Amir Maulana Emran Hossain said on Wednesday evening, “Jamaat Amir Shafiqur Rahman announced this decision after coming to the divisional rally of eight parties in Khulna on December 1.
Locals said that this leader, known to be close to Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, lives in Chuknagar in Dumuria upazila. He has several business establishments there.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, Krishna Nandi became the leader of the Dumuria Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Hindu branch and participated in the election campaign for the party there.
Krishna Nandi is already campaigning in the area. He has promised development.
