POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 25, 2026 : Major General Qaisar Rashid Chowdhury has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Defence Intelligence (DGFI). Analyzing military sources and his long career, it can be seen that he is well known to all as a very talented, sharp-witted and agile military officer of the Bangladesh Army. He has been appointed as the Director General of one of the country’s intelligence agencies by proving his qualifications, training and professionalism at home and abroad.
Major General Qaisar Rashid Chowdhury was commissioned as the second best cadet of the 29th BMA Long Course. He is currently the first officer of his course. His colleagues say that he has never been second in military training.
He has experience in completing various prestigious military courses at home and abroad. He has completed staff courses twice from Bangladesh and the UK with great success. He also completed the Artillery Basic Course from Turkey and the Gunnery Staff Course from Pakistan.
He has served in various important positions with great efficiency in his long military career. He served as the Brigade Major (BM) of the Artillery Brigade in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. In addition, he served as the Directing Staff and Chief Instructor at the Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) for more than three years. He has also served as an instructor for 3 terms at the School of Artillery.
Major General Kaysar Rashid Chowdhury has played an impeccable role in enhancing the image of the country in the international arena. In 2019, he joined the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ). While working there, with his relentless efforts, Bangladesh consolidated its position by earning the honor of being the Top Peacekeeping Contributing Country (Top TCC). Bangladesh maintained this top position throughout his tenure. He made a very important contribution in creating new opportunities for the various security forces of Bangladesh in peacekeeping missions. He was a trusted advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General (MILAD) for his tireless work and talent.
A colleague of his (former army officer) recalled that his first term corporal in BMA was Qaisar Rashid, under whose hand his journey in the army began. From putting on boots to saluting for the first time in his life, he learned everything from this officer.
He further mentioned that Major General Qaisar has proven his competence in all areas – training, operations and administration. He thanked those concerned for selecting such a talented and competent officer to take the helm of DGFI.
According to others, his colorful career proves that he has been entrusted with this important responsibility as the Director General of a sensitive and important organization like DGFI based on talent and professionalism. This decision is timely and will be fruitful for the country.
