POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 31, 2025 : The press secretary to the chief advisor, Shafiqul Alam, said that our foreign policy was mortgaged to a country. But now the foreign policy is independent.
He said this at a dialogue organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 31).
Stating that the current interim government is on a policy of maintaining good relations with everyone, the press secretary said, “We are maintaining good relations with everyone. Be it India, China or the United States.”
Regarding the election, he said, one thing is certain: the election will not be delayed. The election will not be delayed even a day from the time Professor Yunus said.
Shafiqul Alam said, he (Dr. Yunus) first said in early April. Then we said in London that if many reforms are made and the work progresses, it will be in February. We are still at that place. It will not be delayed even a day.
He also said, we hope that this election will be a good election in a very festive atmosphere. Every election has some violence, we will make our utmost efforts to reduce violence to zero.
The press secretary said, the next five-six days are very important for the new political settlement in Bangladesh. During this time, we will understand where we are going.
He said, this government has taken the responsibility of running the country in a damaged state. From there, it can be said that the interim government has done a good job.
Regarding extortion, Shafiqul Alam said, the government has zero tolerance in this regard. Action will be taken against anyone if evidence is found. However, in the last few weeks, a high-profile extortionist has been arrested.
