POBNEWS24, Dhaka May 12, 2026 : The Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has sought the support and cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and IC member countries in a sustainable solution to the Rohingya problem.
He made this call during a courtesy call on the ambassadors and high commissioners of OIC member countries posted in Dhaka at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Tuesday (May 12) afternoon.
He said that at the meeting, representatives of OIC member countries congratulated Tarique Rahman on assuming office as Prime Minister and expressed their interest in further strengthening relations with Bangladesh in various sectors.
They also expressed their determination to stand by Bangladesh in various fields including investment, trade, education, health, textile and pharmaceutical industries.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed the cooperative attitude of the OIC countries and thanked them on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh.
He recalled the friendly relations of Bangladesh with OIC member countries since the time of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and expressed hope that those relations would be further strengthened in the future.
At the time, the Prime Minister also emphasized on increasing people-to-people contact. He also called for continued international support to address the Rohingya crisis.
Ambassadors and High Commissioners of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Palestine, Algeria, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates were present in the meeting. In addition, the heads of missions of Iran, Iraq and Libya also participated.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Foreign Secretary Md. Farhadul Islam and Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atiqur Rahman Rumon were present at the time.
