Strong earthquake shakes Indonesia’s Sumatra

POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Nov 27, 2025 :  A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Sumatra, Indonesia, at 11:56 a.m. on Thursday (November 27).
The quake struck 63 kilometers (39 miles) from the country’s Ngannou Aceh Darussalam province. It struck at a depth of just 14 kilometers (6.5 miles) and was felt by many people near the epicenter.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) and the German Geological Research Center (GFZ) both put the quake at 6.2, although initial reports had said it was a 6.3 magnitude. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties and only minor damage, such as falling objects or broken windows, according to earthquake website Volcano Discovery.
Earlier, last Friday, a powerful 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, Bangladesh, which was one of the strongest earthquakes felt in recent years.
The magnitude of the tremors that day was so high that many people came out of their homes in panic and many eyewitnesses called it unprecedented. As soon as the earthquake began, chaos erupted in various high-rise buildings, offices and commercial centers of the city. The earthquake, which originated in Narsingdi, killed at least 10 people and injured hundreds across the country.
