POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Dec 5, 2025 : The Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City on Friday welcomed students from the Department of International Relations of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a leading university in Latin America, and organized an interactive session on democratic transformation, foreign policy, economic progress and Bangladesh-Mexico relations surrounding Bangladesh.
Welcoming the students, Bangladeshi Ambassador to Mexico, Senior Secretary Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, highlighted the context of recent political changes in Bangladesh and the role of the young generation in the future democratic journey. He said, “I see among you future ambassadors, diplomats – even a future UN Secretary-General. You are the ones who will lead the world, and human rights and human dignity must be at the center of that leadership.”
Referring to the mass uprising that took place in Bangladesh last August, the Ambassador said, “It was a groundbreaking chapter in the country’s recent political history.” The student community—your age—had taken to the streets demanding democracy, accountability, and human dignity. He said, “The ultimate sacrifice has been made in the movement to overthrow dictatorship. According to a report by the United Nations Human Rights Council, about 1,400 citizens, including students, women, and children, have lost their lives.”
Explaining the connection between these changes and Bangladesh’s foreign policy, Ambassador Ansari said, “Bangladesh’s foreign policy is fundamentally based on friendship of equality and equal dignity. We prioritize peace, multilateralism, climate, justice, and the rights of working people.”
He also mentioned that Mexico is an emerging and important partner for Bangladesh in trade, culture, and academic exchanges.
Earlier, Counselor Abdullah Al Farhad presented a comprehensive picture of Bangladesh to the students through a multimedia presentation. He highlighted various examples of Bangladesh’s political structure, demographic strength, and development achievements, especially Bangladesh’s global position in ready-made garment exports, significant progress in infrastructure development, digital transformation, and climate resilience.
During the briefing, students learned about Bangladesh’s leadership in UN peacekeeping operations, its active role in global climate diplomacy, and Bangladesh’s position on international issues including the Palestine and Rohingya crises.
There was also a wide-ranging discussion on the prospects of Bangladesh-Mexico relations. Areas such as multilateral cooperation, climate initiatives, migration governance, technology and sustainable development were identified as potential. In particular, academic and youth exchanges between UNAM and Bangladeshi universities were mentioned as the cornerstones of future cooperation.
A question-and-answer session was held at the end, where students raised various questions about the future of regional geopolitics and economic diplomacy. Later, the students attended a short reception organized by the Bangladesh Embassy. Ambassador Ansari presented each of them with souvenirs, including books on Bangladeshi culture and traditional glass crafts.
