POBNEWS24 Dhaka, June 27, 2025 : The Bangladesh administration demolished the Durga temple in Khilkhet, Dhaka. The temple was demolished with a bulldozer. People from the local Hindu community lay down in front of the bulldozer to prevent the demolition of the temple. Hundreds of people broke down in tears. The police and the army removed them.
According to local sources, a group of people from the local business association and the Khilkhet area committee of the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation attacked the temple about four days ago. They moved away after being stopped that day, but threatened to move the temple by noon the next day. A fundamentalist organization called Towhidi Janata also joined in the attack.
After that, the Bangladesh Railway authorities took action. They said that the temple is located on railway land. If it is not moved, it will be demolished.
The temple committee and people from the local Hindu community took to the streets against this announcement. Ignoring the protests, the railways started the demolition drive. The demolition of the temple began with bulldozers.
Bangladesh Puja Udjavan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee President Basu Dev Dhar and General Secretary Santosh Sharma have expressed deep concern and anger over the demolition of the Khilkhet Durga Temple in a joint statement. The railway claims that the area from Kuril Biswa Road to Khilkhet has been de-occupied. However, the Hindu community says that many structures in that area are intact. The temple has been demolished by hurting the Hindu community.
