External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed this position at a briefing at the Indian External Affairs Ministry on Thursday. He also said that India is also waiting for the resolution of various pending issues with Bangladesh.

India has raised these issues in various structured meetings, including the Commerce Secretary-level discussions.”
Regarding the issue of common rivers between the two countries, the Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said, “India and Bangladesh share 54 common rivers, including the Ganges. There is a bilateral mechanism called Joint River Commission between the two countries to discuss all relevant issues as part of cooperation in this regard. In addition, in our own internal discussions on such issues, representatives of the concerned state governments are consulted. So that our approach can be determined. We are ready to work with Bangladesh on all issues in an environment conducive to mutually beneficial dialogue.’
Regarding the demolition of a temple in Dhaka’s Khilkhet, Randhir Jaiswal said, ‘The interim government has not provided security to the temple and has presented the incident as illegal land use and has allowed the temple to be demolished. As a result, the idol (statue) has been damaged before it can be moved. We are shocked that such incidents are happening again and again in Bangladesh. I would like to emphasize that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh to protect Hindus, their property and religious institutions.’
