POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 7, 2025 : The Saudi Ministry of Health has announced that heat-related illnesses have decreased by 90 percent for the first time in history during the current 2025 Hajj season.
This year, 1.673 million Muslims from all over the world have successfully performed the holy Hajj – including about 1.5 million international pilgrims.
This information was revealed in a report published by the Gulf News media, citing a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Health on Friday (June 6).
In the report, the Saudi Ministry of Health says that such extraordinary success is due to pre-planned public health measures and close coordination between various government agencies.
They said that the amount of shaded areas has been greatly increased during this year’s Hajj, cooling equipment has been distributed among pilgrims, and awareness campaigns have been carried out in different languages - which have protected pilgrims from falling ill in the heat.
Trained medical teams and emergency service units were deployed at key Hajj sites. The pilgrims were able to complete the religious rituals without any major incidents.
The Ministry of Health said that this success is a direct result of the ‘Health Sector Transformation Program’ and the ‘Hajj Experience Improvement Program’ conducted as part of Saudi Vision 2030.
Last year, thousands of pilgrims suffered from heatstroke in the intense heat, which became a cause for concern around the world. This time, the opposite picture proves that the danger can be largely avoided if quick and effective measures are taken.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Health, our efforts have enabled pilgrims to worship safely and comfortably.
According to the Saudi Statistics Authority, a total of 1,673,230 people performed Hajj in 2025. Of these, 1,566,576 came from abroad and 1,66,654 were citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia.
In total, there were 8,77,841 male pilgrims and 7,95,389 female pilgrims. Of the international pilgrims, 1.435 million arrived by air, 66,465 by road and 5,094 by sea.
This figure was prepared based on the administrative records of the Saudi Ministry of Interior, which the statistical authority stated was very accurate and reliable.
Many expressed relief that this one of the most important acts of worship for the global Muslim Ummah was completed peacefully. Experts believe that the sincerity and efficiency shown by Saudi Arabia in ensuring the safety and comfort of the pilgrims will set an example for the future.
