POBNEWS24, Desk report Dec 24, 2025 : Regarding the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is in exile in India, CPI(M) West Bengal State Secretary Mohammad Salim said, the Modi government will decide whether Sheikh Hasina will go or stay. Why are they still silent on this issue? Earlier, Modi used to talk about Bangladesh but now he is not talking because Washington has forbidden it. In fact, the Indian government is waiting for a signal from America to return Hasina to Bangladesh.

The question of this state secretary of the party is, ‘Why will India return Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh? There is no elected government in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina was the last elected Prime Minister. I am not a supporter of Sheikh Hasina, but she has made many mistakes. We are doing the same thing here in West Bengal that Mamata Banerjee is doing. Whether there is election, corruption, administration or vote rigging on the other side – the people of that country will understand, it is not the matter of any other country.’

Mohammad Salim made these comments while attending a protest rally in front of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata on Tuesday to protest against the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh.

Claiming that the Modi government’s foreign policy on the Bangladesh issue is a complete failure, Mohammad Selim said, ‘The Indian government’s foreign policy is completely failed. On the other hand, US imperialism is profiting. Because it is doing whatever it wants in the country through Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Bangladesh is our neighboring country. In fact, although it is bad to hear what is happening in Bangladesh, it is the success of the foreign policy of the United States, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, on the other hand, it is the ultimate failure of India’s foreign policy. We will understand this.’

Selim’s opinion is, ‘The BJP may be happy with what is happening in Bangladesh. Because a religious frenzy has created a right-wing movement there. Those who want to create a right-wing movement in India are also doing religion-based politics.

He said, Islam is being used because there are more Muslims in Bangladesh, while in India they are talking about Hindutva because there are more Hindus, this is politics. As a result, violence increases, attacks on ordinary working people increase, newspapers and media are attacked, and cultural centers are attacked. “Whether it’s Bangladesh, Pakistan or Afghanistan, everyone should understand how terrible the consequences of engaging in religious politics are.”
