POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 28, 2025 : The Meghalaya Police and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) have rejected the Bangladesh Police’s claim that two suspects involved in the killing of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Osman Hadi have crossed the border into India’s northeastern state of Meghalaya. On Sunday, two senior officials of the Meghalaya Police and the BSF called the Bangladesh Police’s claim misleading.
A senior official at the Meghalaya Police headquarters has rejected the Bangladesh Police’s claim that Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, accused of the killing of Osman Hadi, have fled to India across the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh district and are currently staying in Meghalaya, the country’s media Hindustan Times reported.
The report said that the Meghalaya Police has termed the claim by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials as ‘untrue’ and ‘completely false’. A senior police officer of the state police told Hindustan Times over telephone that there was no formal or informal contact between the Meghalaya police and the Bangladesh police. None of the two accused have been identified or arrested in the Garo Hills area.
Earlier, DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam said that Faisal Karim Masud alias Dawood alias Rahul, who shot Hadi, and motorcyclist Alamgir Sheikh were identified on the day of the incident. Multiple teams of law enforcement agencies are working to arrest them immediately.
He said that immediately after the incident, Faisal and Alamgir went to Aminbazar by CNG from Dhaka. Later, they went to Kalampur in Manikganj. From there, they reached Haluaghat in Mymensingh by private car as planned. They were able to cross the border before the accused were identified.
Two men named Philip and Sanjay waited to receive them at the Moon Filling Station before Haluaghat. Philip, after crossing the border, handed them over to a man named Putti in the Indian state of Meghalaya. Putti handed them over to a taxi driver, Sami. Sami took them to a place called Tura in Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya Police has directly rejected this claim by the Additional Commissioner of DMP. The senior state police officer said that there is no intelligence information, field verification or effective evidence regarding the border crossing or the role of Purti and Sami.
The Meghalaya police officer said, “Purti or Sami have not been identified, traced or arrested anywhere in the state. This narrative appears to have been created without any verification or coordination with the Indian authorities.’’
Supporting the Meghalaya police’s stand on the killings of Osman Hadi, Inspector General of Meghalaya Frontier of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), OP Upadhyay, has rejected the claims of the Bangladesh police. He said there is no evidence that the individuals entered Meghalaya by crossing the international border through the Haluaghat sector. The BSF has not found or reported any such incident. These claims are baseless and misleading.
He said the BSF works only on the basis of verified intelligence and border management protocols. The Meghalaya police has intensified border surveillance as a precautionary measure. Intelligence activities are active and close coordination is being done with the BSF to prevent possible misuse of the border route by criminal gangs, he said.
The Meghalaya police and the BSF said they are open to cooperation with the Bangladeshi authorities. However, no action will be taken without verified information through established formal channels.
